Hazel D. Cole Fellowship in Jewish Studies (Visiting Fellowship at University of Washington)

The Fellowship may be used as a dissertation completion fellowship (must demonstrate intention to complete by the end of the academic year) or for post-doctoral work (Ph.D. or foreign equivalent received within last three years) in any field of Jewish Studies.
The Hazel D. Cole Fellow must agree to be in residence at the University of Washington for the tenure of their fellowship. They are expected to offer one undergraduate course during the academic year, of a size and scope to be determined in conjunction with the Stroum Center Director. The Cole Fellow is also expected to offer one public lecture for the community. The Fellowship includes a stipend of $50,000 plus benefits for the academic year. Candidates from all U.S. and international universities are welcome.
Based in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, the Stroum Center features the flagship Jewish Studies program in the Pacific Northwest, with two dozen affiliated faculty members. Our offerings include an undergraduate major and minor as well as an interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship supporting several doctoral students across campus. Our faculty conduct cutting-edge research in fields ranging from comparative ancient religions to early modern philosophy and contemporary politics. The Center also presents a wide variety of public programming, such as arts events and academic symposia. Through its website, jewishstudies.washington.edu, innovative digital projects, and strong social media presence, the Stroum Center seeks to engage students and the broader community in our scholarship.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong academic record, focused research agenda, and enthusiasm about the resources available at the University of Washington. Application materials should consist of the following:
(1) A current curriculum vitae
(2) A description of your scholarly interests and your proposed research project during your Cole Fellowship year
(3) Proposal for a course you would like to teach, including a prospective syllabus
(4) Two letters of recommendation
(5) An academic writing sample.
