Each year, the Katrin Lamon Fund Fellowship will be awarded to American Indian/Alaska Native graduates studying literature, journalism & communication, or related fields. Katrin Lamon was an author who wrote under the name Martha Albrand.

Each year, the AIGC fellowship program provides $1,200,000 in fellowships to over 350 Native American and Alaska Native graduate students.  Graduate fellowships are monetary awards made to American Indian and Alaska Native graduate or professional degree-seeking students, who meet all eligible criteria.  The United States Bureau of Indian Education federally funds the fellowship program.  The fellowship amount is typically between $1,000 and $5,000 per academic year (not including summer), and varies from year to year, depending on the availability of funds and unmet financial need.

Eligibility:

  • Be an enrolled member of a United States federally-recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group or possess one-fourth degree Indian blood from a federally-recognized tribe.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a Masters, doctoral or professional degree program at an accredited college or university within the United States.
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) from the United States Department of Education and the office of the university you plan to attend.

The possibility of an applicant being granted multiple awards by AIGC also exists, especially as regards smaller-amount awards.

Each year,  the John Rainer Fellowship will be awarded to one male and one female American Indian/Alaska Native graduate student. The awards are each $1000.

  • Be enrolled full-time in a Masters, doctoral or professional degree program at an accredited college or university within the United States.

Jeanette Elmer was a former University of Wisconsin Oshkosh librarian who had a keen interest in both education and Native American nations.

Each year,  the Jeanette Elmer Scholarship will be awarded to American Indian/Alaska Native students that have completed their bachelor degree and are enrolled in a graduate or professional degree program at an accredited institution and who are members of Wisconsin, New Mexico and Arizona tribes.

Eligibility

Scholarship Purpose:
The purpose of the Mary E. Bivins Foundation Religious Scholarship Program is to educate ministers to preach the Christian religion. Scholarships are provided for an undergraduate or graduate education leading to a Bachelors or Masters Degree in a field that prepares the student to preach the Christian religion. Priority will be given to students intending to serve as pulpit pastors upon graduation.

Scholarship Criteria and Award:

  • The student must be dedicated to seeking an undergraduate or graduate education leading to a Bachelors or Masters Degree in a field that prepares the student to preach the Christian religion and with the intent to serve as a pulpit pastor.
  • The student must be committed to studies and maintain a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or above or a cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • The student must be a permanent resident of one of the 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle.
  • The student must enroll and pass a minimum of 12 hours each semester at the undergraduate level or 9 hours each semester at the graduate level.
  • The student must enroll in a college or university that is an accredited institution.

National Women’s Studies Association (NSWA) Women of Color Caucus Student Essay Awards

The purpose of the Women of Color Caucus Student Essay Awards is to discover, encourage, and promote the intellectual development of emerging scholars who engage in critical theoretical discussions and/or analyses about feminist or womanist issues concerning women and girls of color in the United States and the diaspora.

Four (4) $500 awards are available for women of color currently enrolled in a graduate or professional program and are current members of NWSA.

Eligibility Requirements
Submissions must be from a NWSA member and woman of color currently enrolled in a graduate or professional program. Recent PhD graduates who received doctoral degress no earlier than May, 2011 are also eligible.

The Caucus identifies women of color as those persons from African, Asian (including Asian American, Pacific Islander, Arab or Middle East Asian), Latin American, or American Indian (including African Native American or Alaskan Native) descent.

Submission Requirements
Applicants should address the conference theme, Decoloniality, and/or address one of its thematic areas: 1) Unsettling Settler Logics, 2) Movements and Migrations, 3) Bodies and Biopolitics, 4) Borders and Be/longings, 5) World-Making and Resistant Imaginaries. 

Submissions should be original, unpublished manuscripts between 15 – 25 pages, excluding the bibliography. The title page should include the applicant’s name, temporary and permanent address, phone number, email address, college or university affiliation, and student statues (graduate or eligible post graduate) in the top right corner. No other identification information should appear in the manuscript.

Fund for Nurturing Unitarian Universalist Scholarship

The Panel on Theological Education of the Unitarian Universalist Association is receiving applications for grants up to $25,000 from Unitarian Universalist scholars who are committed to strengthening the UU movement through research and publication, excellence in teaching, and educational leadership.

Candidates eligible for this program, in order of priority, are:

  1. Ph.D. candidates in religious/theological studies at the dissertation stage who show promise of contributing to the UU movement through research and publication, excellence in teaching, and educational leadership;
  2. Emerging UU scholars who require financial and mentoring assistance to prepare a completed dissertation for publication;
  3. Established UU scholars who are cultivating the next generation of UU scholars and ministers.

Notre Dame Cushwa Center Research Travel Grants

Grants of up to $2000.00 to help defray travel and lodging costs are made to scholars of any academic discipline who are engaged in projects which require substantial use of the collection of the library and/or the archives of the University of Notre Dame. The library collection is particularly rich in the following areas: Catholic newspapers, history of midwestern Catholicism, Catholic literature, and history of Catholicism in the United States. Manuscripts of historical personages, records of twentieth century Catholic organizations, reports of European missionary societies, and much more material related to the American Catholic community are held in the archives.

Grants to help defray travel and lodging costs are made to scholars of any academic discipline who are engaged in projects which require substantial use of the collections of the library and the archives. Research projects must be related to the study of American Catholicism. Applicants should indicate as specifically as possible how the use of the Notre Dame library and archives are pertinent to this study.

Recipients of grants will be requested to:
1) supply the Center with a short report on the results of their research, 2) acknowledge the grant provided by the Center in all publications which result from this research, 3) provide the Center with one copy of any publication resulting in whole, or in part, from the grant.

A complete application must include one copy of the following:

  1. Application form (also available from the Cushwa Center office)
  2. Current curriculum vitae
  3. 1,000 word description of the project you wish to undertake at the Center
  4. Proposed budget estimating travel, lodging, and research expenses
  5. Two letters of recommendation from two people who know your work. These letter of recommendation should be sent directly to the Cushwa Center.

Applicants should describe the relevance of the project for American Catholic studies, indicate the specific resources of interest at Notre Dame, and specify any plans for publication of the project.

The ASF’s award program for study and research abroad has been the Foundation’s most long-standing commitment to educational exchange. During the past 94 years, over 3,800 fellowships and grants have been given to Americans and Scandinavians engaged in study or research projects.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships (up to $23,000) and grants (normally $5,000) to individuals to pursue research or study in one or more Scandinavian country for up to one year. The number of awards varies each year according to total funds available. Over $300,000 is available for the 2010-11 competition. Awards are made in all fields.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have a well-defined research or study project that makes a stay in Scandinavia essential.
  • Applicants must be United States citizens or permanent residents.
  • Applicants must have completed their undergraduate education by the start of their project in Scandinavia.
  • Team projects are eligible, but each member must apply as an individual, submitting a separate, fully-documented application.
  • First priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received an ASF award. Only in exceptional cases will a third award be considered.

Language Requirement:

The ASF considers it desirable that all candidates have at least some ability in the language of the host country, even if it is not essential for the execution of the research plan.For projects that require a command of one or more Scandinavian (or other) languages, candidates should defer application until they have the necessary proficiency.
